About
Polymer chemistry, drug delivery, molecular design
Hello, I'm Md. Shohag Hossain, a Master's student in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh.
My research lies at the intersection of polymer science, medicinal chemistry, and computational chemistry, with a focus on designing advanced functional materials and drug delivery systems. I am particularly interested in synthesizing well-defined functional polymers, block copolymers, and polymer nanocomposites, as well as chemically modifying natural polymers such as silk for biomedical and advanced material applications.
Currently, I am a Research Assistant in the Synthetic Functional Polymers Laboratory at the University of Rajshahi, where my thesis focuses on developing a genipin-crosslinked, modified silk fibroin-chitosan hybrid hydrogel for synergistic dual drug delivery and accelerated wound healing. My experimental experience includes multistep organic synthesis, polymer characterization using GPC, FTIR/ATR-IR, and UV-Vis spectroscopy, and chromatographic separation techniques. Alongside experimental work, I use computational and quantum chemical approaches to understand molecular interactions and reaction mechanisms and to design molecules for drug delivery, medicinal applications, and sustainable energy systems.
I graduated with a B.Sc. (Honours) in Chemistry with an overall grade of A- and earned an A+ in laboratory courses every year of my undergraduate studies. My research has resulted in several peer-reviewed publications in journals such as the Journal of Molecular Structure, the Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids, PLoS ONE, and Pharmaceuticals, and I have presented my work at national and international conferences through oral and poster presentations.
I am a recipient of the HEAT Fellowship and the RUHERF Best Researcher Award (2026). I currently participate in the HEAT Project (W-3b, PIN-16064), where I contribute to research and collaborative scientific activities. I also serve as a Project Leader at the Computational Biosciences and Chemistry Research Organization (CBC RO), where I mentor student teams in computer-aided drug design and density functional theory.
